As a Chelsea fan, I 100% agree with the common complaint that the board are selling or loaning out far too many players. For example, there's Nathaniel Chalobah, a 22-year-old with great potential, who's just been permanently moved to Watford. Or there's Ruben Loftus-Cheek who has been loaned to Crystal Palace.
Our squad lacks depth. We sold Nemanja Matic to a rival - we should have got a lot more money for him because of that simple fact. But of the £40m we did get for him, we haven't spent a penny. Rumours have been flying around the Internet about how many players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, yet we've only signed four players so far this window.
Our squad desperately needs a right-back and possibly another striker, centre-mid and left-back, but the board are yet to do anything. The first player we signed this transfer window was Willy Caballero after we sold Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth. We got him on a free transfer, but in all honesty, it's a fairly insubstantial signing - he still hasn't played a game for us. We should at least give him a bit of game time to find out what he can do and to boost his confidence.
Another signing we made was Antonio Rudiger. He was a brilliant acquisition because last season we had Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Cahill as our main centre-backs, however, now we can use Rudiger to replace Azpilicueta at centre back, and then Azpi can move over to the right back position to replace Victor Moses.
Our third signing was Bakayoko. He is going to be replacing Nemanja Matic (we signed Bakayoko first, though) and he will probably be playing alongside N’golo Kante. We also have Cesc Fabregas, but we still need a quality centre-mid to improve the depth and strength of our squad. Our fourth and most recent signing was Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. People had been giving him a hard time after he missed a penalty for us in the Community Shield, but following his brilliant Premier League debut people began praising him instead of critiquing him. Yes, Chelsea lost to Burnley, but from the moment Morata was substituted on, he played outstandingly.
Chelsea desperately need to make some transfers before the 31st of August. Our squad is far to thin. So please, Roman Abramovich, spend some money.
