Diego Costa has all the attributes of a world class striker. He's quick, powerful and a decent finisher. However, there are aspects of his game that, as a fan, make you want strangle him.
Though born in Brazil, he's not the greatest technically. His dribbling is average and his hold up play could definitely improve. His movement of the ball is excellent. He attracts opposing defenders allowing the likes of Hazard, Willian and Pedro space to terrorise defences and score goals. Also, his seeming telepathic relationship with Fabregas has been something to marvel at, at times.
When the Spaniard is on form, there are very few strikers better than him. He proved this in the first half of the season, scoring 14 goals by the turn on the year. It's not just the amount of goals he scored, but the importance of the goals. The Brazilian born forward scored goals against Liverpool, Everton and City. All before the turn of the year. Since then, he has only managed 3 league goals. For a striker of his calibre, that is very poor. To put into perspective how poor that is, top scorer Romelu Lukaku has scored 14 goals in the same time. Ironically, Lukaku is one of the players tipped to replace him should he leave.
It is evident that he had his head turned by the astronomical sums offered in China, and to a certain extent I don't blame him. Although, I still expect performances on the pitch. It's almost certain that he will leave in the summer and I can't say I'd be too disappointed. He is undoubtably one of the best Premier League strikers in modern times. I'm thankful for what he's given Chelsea but, there is no room for passengers at this club.
